Friends in-the-know update their jewellery because they are continuously improving their look Wednesday, Mar 20 2019

It pays to be able to just swing in when in town, anytime day or evening.

Commissions come from everywhere, anywhere – simple conversations that friends have, in earshot Wednesday, Mar 20 2019

Barbara and Anna swim regularly at the local pool, have early coffee and do writing exercises together.

This recycled gold and gem rejig of Vicki’s wedding ring set came about over a chance, counter exchange.

My daughter’s 40th birthday gift commissioned from all her friends Thursday, Mar 7 2019

The call came in from Andi (Andrea McDonald), “what piece of jewellery would Lil like?” Barbara was able to steer it in the right direction . . .

“Just had a quick read of your email, lovely plans! re: jewellery

I know Lil loves this idea.. a single gold edged shell, as a pendant. She’s mentioned it a few times. I think I could make up something similar if you all like it… I’d have to find a good shell but we do have some in the collection – just have to hunt it down. What do you think?” The rest just fell into place . . .

The studio produced an 18ct yellow gold sculptured double sided mount with jump ring and small hinged gold punched disc, a far greater upgrade to the teale-earrings originally discussed. There were more presents, Lil hosted everyone for their staycation at the Calile on James Street, last Saturday night.

Happy Birthday all over again Darling . . .

Happy New (Chinese) Year of the pig for 2019 – studio started back last week Thursday, Feb 7 2019

Barbara has done 5 follow-ups, 8 quotes, 3 client meetings and 3 new stock ring waxes since starting into the studio for 2019. Her first animal repair for the year turned out smashing. A recycled bog oak pig (good luck charm) in 18ct yellow gold. Thanks Shazza at Lancasters Antiques in Toowoomba for the distressed little piggy gift.

The actual last commission for 2018 Thursday, Jan 3 2019

. . . actually its for a friend who is doing a task for us in Tasmania so its a swap or a contra, I guess. It still makes the list and is still posted to show the world what we do. The porcelain shard was found under the floorboards at Elizabeth Street, Hobart while Ben Walker was renovating his family home. He wanted something wearable from Jeweller to the Lost for his wife and daughter. We cut the shard in two, the top one for Maddy as the grounded one and the boat for Hollie, the soon to be free one.

A very early carved ring by Barbara, I’m surprised how many pieces (commissions) escaped without photo documentation. This is from 2005 and is listed in the ‘commissions-the lot’ list. So reminds me of early Han Chinese carving, clouds & spirits working their magic. Settings checked and the usual clean . . .

Our 25th wedding anniversary – and 32 years since we met Thursday, Dec 13 2018

A wonderful soul who we have since lost touch with, Hilary Dimon was commissioned to do both our natal charts – to find the most suitable time for us to merge our planets back in 1993. We had chosen our location, Sans Souci at North Stradbroke Island but somehow could not fix the date. Hilary reported back with a question “do you have anything against the 13th?” No, the 13th is fine. “OK well 3am is the optimum time”… We did have a problem with 3am however. . . . “ok, next best is at 11:00pm on the dot on the Sunday evening the 12th?” And so it was done . . .

Being both so interested in symbology and ritual we spent much time devising a ceremony that would have meaning for us. We then took twelve dear friends to the island to witness our little ritual under the stars. That team then returned to our home the following day to set the scene for a celebration party for 220 guests.
