One down and one (studio sale) to go . . . Saturday, Nov 30 2013

3:00am I woke to steady rain – 6:10 the iPhone alarm went off, pouring rain . . . so excited for the garden BUT we had bump-in at 7:30am at GOMA Christmas Design Sale! With clothes in the plastic bag we donned shorts and scuffs and got totally soaked saving the Georgian furniture from the weather. 8:30am shot all set up dry as a bone. Loads of clients, friends, other stall holders all over our lovely clobber. One down and one (studio sale) to go . . .

Numerous local design and craft makers have tables at this event. For one day only we mark down our selected stock from the Queensland Art Gallery bookshop which is our premier showcase in Brisbane. This public event runs a week before our annual studio sale for commission clients and their friends. Be there early to meet with us, this weekend – downloadable .pdf flyer here.

20 contemporary jewellers now show at Fio Contemporary Jewellery and Design in Brisbane’s James Street fashion district Saturday, Nov 23 2013

The show opened last night and was a great energetic affair (we all enjoyed local Teneriffe hand made Ales by Green Beacon & food spread by Pennisi Food Deli) – Matt requested that Barbara not show any work similar to our other retail outlets in Brisbane. Barbara and the ‘Jeweller to the Lost ‘s studio have created new minimal wearables with our Lapis Lazuli gem stock. Two pair of earrings and ring and a (detail) of the ‘hero’  large brooch. The five ‘silver’ precursors Barbara started into prior to the collaboration with Marian Drew have also been consigned. Shop 6/65 James Street Fortitude Valley Q 4006.

A client flew up from Sydney to do her usual 7 briefs,  last week, took one look at these and requested her own version of the centre flower planter and has started to select gem stones as the flowers. Largest unit 96mm H – all solid 925 sterling silver © Bh 2013. High-res here.

‘The Weekend Edition’ just posted the social pics from the opening of ‘silver’ at the Museum Of Brisbane, nice Friday, Nov 22 2013

Which reminded me of this shot of the installation by Chelsea Sipthorp, supplied to Marian Drew and Barbara Heath of their artwork: “Maisie & Bab’s Garden Sketchbook” Click here for the larger downloadable image.

Also please note: The “silver’ panel discussion with Marian Drew & Barbara Heath is scheduled for 2:00pm Sunday 2nd March 2014 at the Museum of Brisbane.

Here is a detail of the work:

Here are x8 shots I took of the ‘silver’ objects when they were housed in the studio cabinet Monday, Nov 18 2013

The show at the Museum of Brisbane opened last Thursday evening to a host of guests and many of our pals, all the artists and those closely associated with MOB. Marian has taken great individual shots of the objects on a white ground and the work itself shown with the backdrop looks super but here I am sharing eight of my more moody shots:

“Six pairs of Queensland’s finest visual  artist collaborate for the first time for ‘silver’. Each duo – a leading photographer and artisan jeweller – consider the differences and commonalities in their practices to present new artworks inspired by our city.” Barbara and Marian’s artist talk is at 2pm on Sunday 13th April 2014 just prior to the show’s closure on 27th April but don’t wait that long to see this super show . . .

Another ‘thank-you’ card from lovely recent clients Tuesday, Nov 12 2013

. . . to be filed with their job bag and placed in the commissioner’s year 2013 folder. I have it out typing all the new clients’ details into the database for the ‘jeweller to the lost’ annual report and studio sale notice that we produce every year.
