Blogroll and malcolm enright and urban archaeology
collections, gem stones and high carat metal, silver, the good things malcolmenright
Cleaning and repairing this piece of sculptured metal – fun ! two and three & more shots . . .
They say mere toothpaste and wet brush works just fine cleaning up stuff like this.
DAG, first I had to separate the rose form from the vase so we could tack the two leaf parts back to the main stem. The green tarnish in places is removed with lemon juice quickly and washed away with water. The gold plated silver is cleaned with warm soapy water, flushed three times and then dried in heated sawdust – no brushing! The sawdust blown away with small hair dryer. The other secret is the slightest hint of ammonia is in the warm water.
Cheers from downunder!
