The first and second ones were for Patricia Crowley, different high quality hero gems, both with Diamonds. Andrew was introduced to us by his friends the super interior decorators: Christopher Thomas & Mark Alexander (Thomas & Alexander, Paddington Brisbane) who also assisted his search for this stunning Emerald. Lots of research on our blog ensued, we were impressed with Andrew’s knowledge of what we produce, then we both fell in love with his (perfect colour) Emerald. The design process went without a skipping a beat and now Barbara has completed another one-off dual construction in wax. At 2.78ct the large cushion cut stone will be set in its own 22ct yellow gold bezel which is fitted into an 18ct yellow gold band set with round brilliant cut Diamonds. I will report on this make when it is finished and allowed to go to its new owner, shortly.

Almost 100 guests turned out to hear Liz Shaw’s opening address at Contemporary Wearables/Tinsmith opening on Sunday June 24, 2012. Emma Bain welcomed Councillors, artists, visitors, gallery guides and team members. Dr Deborah Porch, Ian Were, Dr Gael Phillips, Liz Shaw’s partner Nick and one other younger maker we know Shanna Muston were in attendance with numerous well dressed folk enjoying the drinks and ambience down on the bay. A great companion exhibition for us actually, shows great planning and many wonderful jewellery and objects into the bargain, through July for a month – worth a go-see.

In fact, two commissions were finished the day of the ‘transit of Venus’ – both with owls. I’ve posted the brooch and now Mara’s Necklace, above. The commission involved the design and fabrication of the oxidised S-clasp, the domed oxidised Lace spacers using her scrap gold, water cast to form ‘droplets’, applied to the surface. Her antique two-sided Minoan coin set in 22ct Yellow Gold and a huge multiple strand of faceted Fire Agate beads entirely re-threaded. Mara wanted something “more casual and lighter” than her wonderful © Bh Pearl Necklace from late 2009. We are awash with recycling lovely, sentimental elements for women (and Men) who want a newer timeless jag on older tired pieces.
